What is legalization?

Legalization is to certify that the signature and seal of a public document has been made by a competent authority. This process only certifies the signature and stamp showing the document was issued by a public official in the exercise of their functions, but does not certify the validity of the content. Legalization is valid in countries that are not part of the Hague Convention on the Abolition of the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.

An Apostille is the legalization of a document for international use in countries that are part of the Hague Convention l. On October 5, 1961 some countries of the world agreed that could legalize documents for universal validity, through a label called Apostille.
